24 beginning of the journal, i.e. the oldest available entry.</p><p>Similarly, <code class="function">sd_journal_seek_tail()</code> may
25 be used to seek to the end of the journal, i.e. the most recent
26 available entry.</p><p><code class="function">sd_journal_seek_monotonic_usec()</code> seeks
27 to the entry with the specified monotonic timestamp, i.e.
28 <code class="constant">CLOCK_MONOTONIC</code>. Since monotonic time
29 restarts on every reboot a boot ID needs to be specified as
30 well.</p><p><code class="function">sd_journal_seek_realtime_usec()</code> seeks
31 to the entry with the specified realtime (wallclock) timestamp,
32 i.e. <code class="constant">CLOCK_REALTIME</code>. Note that the realtime
33 clock is not necessarily monotonic. If a realtime timestamp is
34 ambiguous, it is not defined which position is sought to.</p><p><code class="function">sd_journal_seek_cursor()</code> seeks to the
35 entry located at the specified cursor string. For details on
36 cursors, see
37 <a href="sd_journal_get_cursor.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">sd_journal_get_cursor</span>(3)</span></a>.
38 If no entry matching the specified cursor is found the call will
39 seek to the next closest entry (in terms of time) instead. To
40 verify whether the newly selected entry actually matches the
41 cursor, use
42 <a href="sd_journal_test_cursor.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">sd_journal_test_cursor</span>(3)</span></a>.</p><p>Note that these calls do not actually make any entry the new
43 current entry, this needs to be done in a separate step with a
44 subsequent
45 <a href="sd_journal_next.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">sd_journal_next</span>(3)</span></a>
46 invocation (or a similar call). Only then, entry data may be
47 retrieved via
48 <a href="sd_journal_get_data.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">sd_journal_get_data</span>(3)</span></a>.
49 If no entry exists that matches exactly the specified seek
50 address, the next closest is sought to. If
51 <a href="sd_journal_next.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">sd_journal_next</span>(3)</span></a>
52 is used, the closest following entry will be sought to, if
