  23                 configures the virtual console, i.e. keyboard mapping
  24                 and console font. It is applied at boot by
  25                 <a href="systemd-vconsole-setup.service.html"><span class="citerefentry"><span class="refentrytitle">systemd-vconsole-setup.service</span>(8)</span></a>.</p><p>The basic file format of the
  26                 <code class="filename">vconsole.conf</code> is a
  27                 newline-separated list of environment-like
  28                 shell-compatible variable assignments. It is possible
  29                 to source the configuration from shell scripts,
  30                 however, beyond mere variable assignments no shell
  31                 features are supported, allowing applications to read
  32                 the file without implementing a shell compatible
  33                 execution engine.</p><p>Note that the kernel command line options
  34                 <code class="varname">vconsole.keymap=</code>,
  35                 <code class="varname">vconsole.keymap.toggle=</code>,
  36                 <code class="varname">vconsole.font=</code>,
  37                 <code class="varname">vconsole.font.map=</code>,
  38                 <code class="varname">vconsole.font.unimap=</code> may be used
  39                 to override the console settings at boot.</p><p>Depending on the operating system other
  40                 configuration files might be checked for configuration
  41                 of the virtual console as well, however only as
