Pull MIPS updates from Ralf Baechle:
- Some minor work bringing the Cobalt MIPS platforms in line with other
MIPS platforms
- Make vmlinux.32 and vmlinux.64 build messages less verbose
- Always register the R4k clocksource when selected, the clock source's
rating will decide if this or another clock source is actually going
to be used
- Drop support for the Cisco (formerly Scientific Atlanta) PowerTV
platform. There appears to be nobody left who cares and the USB
driver went stale while waiting for years to be merged
- Some cleanup of Loongson 2 related #ifdefery
- Various minor cleanups
- Major rework on all things related to tracing / ptrace on MIPS,
including switching the MIPS ELF core dumper to regsets, enabling the
entries for SIGSYS in struct siginfo for MIPS, enabling ftrace
syscall trace points
- Some more work to bring DECstation support code in line with other
more modern code
- Report the name of the detected CPU, not just its CP0 PrID value
- Some more BCM 47xx and atheros ath79xx work
- Support for compressed kernels using the XZ compression scheme

Another important change is the removal of the user_mode=home option,

Currently, if the server is doing NFSv4.2 and supports labeled NFS, then

This patch ensures that READDIR doesn't ask the server for label information

The IDTE instruction used to flush TLB entries for a specific address

affected TLB entries. The upgrade of a page table adds a new top

with the old ASCE need to be flushed and the ASCE for the address space
needs to be replaced synchronously on all CPUs which currently use it.
The concept of a lazy ASCE update with an exception handler is broken.

net: sctp: do not trigger BUG_ON in sctp_cmd_delete_tcb
Introduced in f9e42b853523 ("net: sctp: sideeffect: throw BUG if
primary_path is NULL"), we intended to find a buggy assoc that's
part of the assoc hash table with a primary_path that is NULL.
However, we better remove the BUG_ON for now and find a more
suitable place to assert for these things as Mark reports that
this also triggers the bug when duplication cookie processing
happens, and the assoc is not part of the hash table (so all
good in this case). Such a situation can for example easily be
reproduced by:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: prio bands 2 priomap 1 1 1 1 1 1
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:2 handle 20: netem loss 20%
tc filter add dev eth0 protocol ip parent 1: prio 2 u32 match ip \
protocol 132 0xff match u8 0x0b 0xff at 32 flowid 1:2
This drops 20% of COOKIE-ACK packets. After some follow-up
discussion with Vlad we came to the conclusion that for now we
should still better remove this BUG_ON() assertion, and come up
with two follow-ups later on, that is, i) find a more suitable
place for this assertion, and possibly ii) have a special
allocator/initializer for such kind of temporary assocs.

lenghts or identifier counts. Prevent them from getting negative.
Also change the underlying data types to be unsigned to avoid hairy
surprises with sign extensions in cases where those variables get
evaluated in unsigned expressions with bigger data types, e.g size_t.
In case a user still wants to have "unlimited" sizes she could just use
INT_MAX instead.

Query network adapter info at mount time for debugging
When CONFIG_CIFS_STATS2 enabled query adapter info for debugging
It is easy now in SMB3 to query the information about the server's
network interfaces (and at least Windows 8 and above do this, if not
other clients) there are some useful pieces of information you can get
including:
- all of the network interfaces that the server advertises (not just
the one you are mounting over), and with SMB3 supporting multichannel
this helps with more than just failover (also aggregating multiple
sockets under one mount)
- whether the adapter supports RSS (useful to know if you want to
estimate whether setting up two or more socket connections to the same
address is going to be faster due to RSS offload in the adapter)
- whether the server supports RDMA
- whether the server has IPv6 interfaces (if you connected over IPv4
but prefer IPv6 e.g.)
- what the link speed is (you might want to reconnect over a higher
speed interface if available)
(Of course we could also rerequest this on every mount cheaplly to the
same server, as Windows apparently does, so we can update the adapter
info on new mounts, and also on every reconnect if the network
interface drops temporarily - so we don't have to rely on info from
the first mount to this server)
It is trivial to request this information - and certainly will be useful
when we get to the point of doing multichannel (and eventually RDMA),
but some of this (linkspeed etc.) info may help for debugging in
the meantime. Enable this request when CONFIG_CIFS_STATS2 is on
(only for smb3 mounts since it is an SMB3 or later ioctl).

An earlier patch allowed setting the per-file compression flag

This patch extends the ability to set the per-file

different IOCTL mechanism than SMB2, although the payload

(1) per cpu access function isn't used, instead a naked pointer is used
which easily causes oops.
(2) the check doesn't sum all cpus
The fix is to remove the check. It's currently dangerous and isn't
worth fixing it to use something expensive, such as
percpu_counter_sum(), for each reparented page. __this_cpu_read() isn't
enough to fix this because there's no guarantees of the current cpus
count. The only guarantees is that the sum of all per-cpu counter is >=

sysfs: rename sysfs_assoc_lock and explain what it's about
sysfs_assoc_lock is an odd piece of locking. In general, whoever owns
a kobject is responsible for synchronizing sysfs operations and sysfs
proper assumes that, for example, removal won't race with any other
operation; however, this doesn't work for symlinking because an entity
performing symlink doesn't usually own the target kobject and thus has
no control over its removal.
sysfs_assoc_lock synchronizes symlink operations against kobj->sd
disassociation so that symlink code doesn't end up dereferencing
already freed sysfs_dirent by racing with removal of the target
kobject.
This is quite obscure and the generic name of the lock and lack of
comments make it difficult to understand its role. Let's rename it to
sysfs_symlink_target_lock and add comments explaining what's going on.

sysfs: use generic_file_llseek() for sysfs_file_operations
13c589d5b0ac6 ("sysfs: use seq_file when reading regular files")
converted regular sysfs files to use seq_file. The commit substituted
generic_file_llseek() with seq_lseek() for llseek implementation.
Before the change, all regular sysfs files were allowed to seek to any
position in [0, PAGE_SIZE] as the file size is always PAGE_SIZE and
generic_file_llseek() allows any seeking inside the range under file
size; however, seq_lseek()'s behavior is different. It traverses the
output by repeatedly invoking ->show() until it reaches the target
offset or traversal indicates EOF. As seq_files are fully dynamic and
may not end at all, it doesn't support seeking from the end
(SEEK_END).
Apparently, there are userland tools which uses SEEK_END to discover
the buffer size to use and the switch to seq_lseek() disturbs them as
SEEK_END fails with -EINVAL.
The only benefits of using seq_lseek() instead of
generic_file_llseek() are
* Early failure. If traversing to certain file position should fail,
seq_lseek() will report such failures on lseek(2) instead of the
following read/write operations.
* EOF detection. While SEEK_END is not supported, SEEK_SET/CUR +
large offset can be used to detect eof - eof at the time of the seek
anyway as the file size may change dynamically.
Both aren't necessary for sysfs or prospect kernfs users. Revert to
genefic_file_llseek() and preserve the original behavior.
The problem is that _nfs4_do_set_security_label calls rpc_call_sync()
directly which fails to do any setup of the SEQUENCE call. Have it use
nfs4_call_sync() instead which does the right thing. While we're at it
change the name of "args" to "arg" to better match the pattern in

lib/scatterlist.c: don't flush_kernel_dcache_page on slab page
Commit b1adaf65ba03 ("[SCSI] block: add sg buffer copy helper
functions") introduces two sg buffer copy helpers, and calls
flush_kernel_dcache_page() on pages in SG list after these pages are
written to.
Unfortunately, the commit may introduce a potential bug:
- Before sending some SCSI commands, kmalloc() buffer may be passed to
block layper, so flush_kernel_dcache_page() can see a slab page
finally
- According to cachetlb.txt, flush_kernel_dcache_page() is only called
on "a user page", which surely can't be a slab page.
- ARCH's implementation of flush_kernel_dcache_page() may use page
mapping information to do optimization so page_mapping() will see the
slab page, then VM_BUG_ON() is triggered.
Aaro Koskinen reported the bug on ARM/kirkwood when DEBUG_VM is enabled,
and this patch fixes the bug by adding test of '!PageSlab(miter->page)'

In the memcg case, we only care about children when we are attempting to

Commit 84235de394d9 ("fs: buffer: move allocation failure loop into the
allocator") allowed __GFP_NOFAIL allocations to bypass the limit if they
fail to reclaim enough memory for the charge. But because the main test
case was on a 3.2-based system, the patch missed the fact that on newer
kernels the charge function needs to return root_mem_cgroup when
bypassing the limit, and not NULL. This will corrupt whatever memory is
at NULL + percpu pointer offset. Fix this quickly before problems are
reported.

memcg: use __this_cpu_sub() to dec stats to avoid incorrect subtrahend casting
As of commit 3ea67d06e467 ("memcg: add per cgroup writeback pages
accounting") memcg counter errors are possible when moving charged
memory to a different memcg. Charge movement occurs when processing
writes to memory.force_empty, moving tasks to a memcg with
memcg.move_charge_at_immigrate=1, or memcg deletion.
An example showing error after memory.force_empty:
mapped_file should end with 0. 4503599627370496 == 0x10,0000,0000,0000 == 0x100,0000,0000 pages 1048576 == 0x10,0000 == 0x100 pages
This issue only affects the source memcg on 64 bit machines; the
destination memcg counters are correct. So the rmdir case is not too
important because such counters are soon disappearing with the entire
memcg. But the memcg.force_empty and memory.move_charge_at_immigrate=1
cases are larger problems as the bogus counters are visible for the
(possibly long) remaining life of the source memcg.
The problem is due to memcg use of __this_cpu_from(.., -nr_pages), which
is subtly wrong because it subtracts the unsigned int nr_pages (either
-1 or -512 for THP) from a signed long percpu counter. When
nr_pages=-1, -nr_pages=0xffffffff. On 64 bit machines stat->count[idx]
is signed 64 bit. So memcg's attempt to simply decrement a count (e.g.
from 1 to 0) boils down to:
long count = 1
unsigned int nr_pages = 1
count += -nr_pages /* -nr_pages == 0xffff,ffff */
count is now 0x1,0000,0000 instead of 0
The fix is to subtract the unsigned page count rather than adding its
negation. This only works once "percpu: fix this_cpu_sub() subtrahend
casting for unsigneds" is applied to fix this_cpu_sub().

percpu: fix this_cpu_sub() subtrahend casting for unsigneds
this_cpu_sub() is implemented as negation and addition.
This patch casts the adjustment to the counter type before negation to
sign extend the adjustment. This helps in cases where the counter type
is wider than an unsigned adjustment. An alternative to this patch is
to declare such operations unsupported, but it seemed useful to avoid
surprises.
This patch specifically helps the following example:
unsigned int delta = 1
preempt_disable()
this_cpu_write(long_counter, 0)
this_cpu_sub(long_counter, delta)
preempt_enable()
Before this change long_counter on a 64 bit machine ends with value
0xffffffff, rather than 0xffffffffffffffff. This is because
this_cpu_sub(pcp, delta) boils down to this_cpu_add(pcp, -delta),
which is basically:
long_counter = 0 + 0xffffffff
Also apply the same cast to:
__this_cpu_sub()
__this_cpu_sub_return()
this_cpu_sub_return()
All percpu_test.ko passes, especially the following cases which
previously failed:
l -= ui_one;
__this_cpu_sub(long_counter, ui_one);
CHECK(l, long_counter, -1);

Notice that we had a very low number of inodes, which were reduced to
zero my mult_frac().
Now, prune_icache_sb() calls list_lru_walk_node() passing that number of
inodes (0) into that as the number of objects to scan:
long prune_icache_sb(struct super_block *sb, unsigned long nr_to_scan,
int nid)
{
LIST_HEAD(freeable);
long freed;
spin_lock(&nlru->lock);
restart:
list_for_each_safe(item, n, &nlru->list) {
enum lru_status ret;
/*
* decrement nr_to_walk first so that we don't livelock if we
* get stuck on large numbesr of LRU_RETRY items
*/
if (--(*nr_to_walk) == 0)
break;
So, if *nr_to_walk was zero when this function was entered, that means
we're wanting to operate on (~0UL)+1 objects - which might as well be
infinite.
Clearly this is not correct behaviour. If we think about the behaviour
of this function when *nr_to_walk is 1, then clearly it's wrong - we
decrement first and then test for zero - which results in us doing
nothing at all. A post-decrement would give the desired behaviour -
we'd try to walk one object and one object only if *nr_to_walk were one.
It also gives the correct behaviour for zero - we exit at this point.
