20* On x86 you should be able to launch any program by using the
21libraries installed on your PC. For example:
22
23 ./qemu -L / /bin/ls
24
25* On non x86 CPUs, you need first to download at least an x86 glibc
1eb87257 26(qemu-XXX-i386-glibc21.tar.gz on the qemu web page). Ensure that
644c433c
FB
27LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not set:
28
29 unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH
30
31Then you can launch the precompiled 'ls' x86 executable:
d691f669 32
500dab07 33 ./qemu /usr/local/qemu-i386/bin/ls-i386

34
35You can look at /usr/local/qemu-i386/bin/qemu-conf.sh so that QEMU is
36automatically launched by the Linux kernel when you try to launch x86
37executables.

39Tested tool versions
40--------------------
41
42In order to compile QEMU succesfully, it is very important that you
43have the right tools. The most important one is gcc. I cannot guaranty
44that QEMU works if you do not use a tested gcc version. Look at
45'configure' and 'Makefile' if you want to make a different gcc
411bffc4 46version work.

64[1] On Alpha, QEMU needs the gcc 'visibility' attribute only available
65 for gcc version >= 3.3.
66[2] Linux >= 2.4.20 is necessary for precise exception support
67 (untested).

70[4] gcc 2.95.x generates invalid code when using too many register
71variables. You must use gcc 3.x on PowerPC.
